Something You May Never Ever Dream Of - Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev

Something You May Never Ever Dream Of Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev I first saw a calculator at the age of thirteen. I was deeply offended, wondering why on earth we were being tortured in math class when all that the teacher needed to do was to consult a machine for the answer! I dreamt of the day when there would be a machine for every other class as well. There is a pervasive notion that spiritual life is antagonistic to the mind. This is a fallacy. The human mind is responsible for the great advances of culture and civilisation. But we have accorded disproportionate importance to a single aspect of the mind: the intellect. Today, it is those with great memories who are considered intelligent. They pass examinations with ease, get top grades, bag PhDs and are hailed as thinkers of repute. This is, primarily, because they remember what they study and are efficient at reproducing the same. Traditionally, in the Indian subcontinent, wisdom was always prized over knowledge. Human memo...

Armed with looms, women are weaving a change in Nagaland

Image
Traditional weaving lost out to power looms and was on its death bed, but a band of dedicated women in Nagaland has not only resurrected it, but taken it to the next level, spinning off an entirely new industry around it — loinloom-centered tourism. Sonnie Kath is considered to be the pioneer who breathed new life into loin loom weaving in Nagaland. Back in 2003, Sonnie, along with her two sisters, founded ‘Echo Self Help Group’ and reintroduced traditional weaving in Diezephe village, 15km from Dimapur, the commercial capital of Nagaland. “What started as an experiment involving 11 weavers has now turned into an industry of 200 women,” says Haiyale, one of the co-founders. “Depending upon the design and how much they weave, some women earn up to Rs 6,000 a month,” she says. The NGO of the Kath sisters has now evolved into ‘Exotic Echo’ with Haiyale as president. Exotic Echo not only produces and markets its products, it grows cotton, spins it into yarn, and dyes it too! While some rules stay eternal, there are a few of us who have still not changed dusty textbooks of love that our great grandfathers abided to once. And this might also be the reason why there’s that percentage of people who may not be able to survive the failure of a relationship. Check through these regulations that need to scrapped off from your relationship guidebook, ASAP. LET HIM CHASE YOU      The funda of ‘A woman should be chased by the man’ is so stone-age.
