>> THE BOLD BRIDE: MAKE A STATEMENT Rohan Begani, managing director, Begani Jewels, says, “Brides of 2012-2013 are similar to brides of the past. They prefer bigger statement pieces. Being their special day, they want to stand out. Most people have always liked traditional jewellery but nowadays, most brides-to-be prefer wearing a mix of traditional and modern designs. A lot of them opt for jadau pieces that have a modern touch. We have even designed statement pieces that combine diamonds with the traditional jadau style.“
>> THE ROOTED BRIDE: COMBINE TRADITION WITH CONTEMPORARY Statement pieces that can later be used to complement a bride’s trousseau and is a fusion between tradition and modern styles is a popular pick amongst brides
these days. There are brides that believe in “less is more”. For them a statement piece, dangler earrings or a large choker is all that it takes. Shehzad Zaveri, creative director, Minawala Jewellers, states, “Chokers embellished with rubies along with emeralds and an intimation of pearls is exceptionally elegant and fashionable; it is traditional yet classy. Rubies with diamonds and/or emeralds are in tune with the increasing demand and are a fad among women. Rubies with emeralds are currently enjoying a spurt in requirement.”
>> THE METICULOUS BRIDE: DELVE IN THE DETAILS However, there are also those who believe in going all out on their big day and ensuring that every little trinket is in its place. “Elaborate uncut diamond necklace sets adorned with big-sized coloured stones and pearls with matching maang tikkas, bangles and rings is the current trend. Many brides-to-be even go in for complete diamond necklace sets with either emeralds or rubies. The tiered or multilayered necklace sets which comprise of a choker, a medium length necklace and a long necklace is also quite popular these days,” says Ishu Datwani, founder, Anmol Jewellers.
Bridal jewellery can be a combination of the old and new. It can be a mix of statement pieces and delicate trinkets to help the newly-wed bride look dazzling on special occasions. However, the most important thing remains — her personal style and how the ornaments help in enhancing her features and being that perfect accessory to complement her new life.
