Mumbai couples opt for funky wedding invites
From save-the-date cards to personalised websites with videos, creativity is the keyword
Theme and destination weddings are passe’. An increasing number of soon-to-wed couples in the city are sending funky cards and emails to friends and family, asking them to ‘save the date’ for the occasion.
Save-the-date card usually captures the couple in a crazy, funky and informal pose, as they disclose their wedding date via email, card or ecard. They are generally sent out at least a year or six months in advance and is followed by a formal invitation. The trend has always been popular in the West.
Photographer Payal Kumar, who has shot for many save-the-date cards, says, “Many couples want to announce their wedding informally. The shoot can cost anywhere between 35,000 and 50,000, depending on the photographer and the concept. The idea is slowly catching on here.”
Shreya Sen, another photographer, adds, “Save-thedate cards appeal to the youth. The cost of the shoot varies, but it starts from 15,000. Also, in most cases, the photographs clicked during the shoot are used again. A couple recently used a photograph on the front of their wedding invite.”
And
now there are websites too. These include details of all pre-wedding
events and sometimes, a short video clip of the couple inviting their
friends and family. “It’s a great personal touch,” says Parthip
Thygarajan who has a wedding portal. “You’ll be amazed at how many
people are opting for it. Every detail, even maps explaining the
location of the venue, are included. These websites are a great value
addition.”
Apart from being cost-effective — it saves money and paper — there’s immense scope for creativity, too. For example, the website may have as its background score a song that the couple loves. Some people even put up separate invites for bachelor or hen parties. Since these websites are password-protected, only a select few are privy to the invite.
